Year 6 children have now been given revision books to work from. These focus on Reading, Maths and Grammar, Spelling and Punctuation. Children will be given a new page, from each book, to work through each week. Work is set on a Friday and it is expected that the books are then handed in by the following Thursday.

Spellings will continue to be set on Monday and tested on a Friday. In addition to this, children also need to be learning the Year 5/6 spelling list.

In Maths, we will be continuing to secure children's understanding of: Number and Place Value (including fractions, decimals and percentages), Algebra, Measurement, Ratio and Proportion, Geometry (including properties of shape, position and direction) and Statistics.

Please encourage your child to revise any keys areas they are finding difficult at home. They can use their revision guide books that the school has provided them with.

In English, we will begin the Spring term by studying the well-known Shakespeare play,  'Macbeth'. Children will begin by researching William Shakespeare and writing biographies about his life. We will then move onto looking at an adaptation of the play and the children will be doing lots of writing on characterisation, setting and atmosphere.

In the second half of the term we will be studying, 'The Adventures of Odysseus'. The children will be creating and writing their own myths as well as making cross curricular links to our topic, Greece

Grammar is a very important focus in the Year 6 curriculum. Here is a link to some revision games that might support your child.

Our Topic this term is:

Greece

During the first half of this term the children will be focusing on Geography. Locating Greece on a map and identifying the physical and human features of the country. We will also be extending their geographical understanding and vocabulary using terms such as: biomes, vegetation, longitude, latitude, tropics and equator.

In History, children will be studying the Ancient Greeks. We will be looking back at when and where the Olympics originated.

In Art and DT, we will be studying the work of Greek sculptors and creating our own Greek Gods using clay.

PE will be on Monday and Thursdays.

Outdoor - Tag Rugby (Monday)

Indoor - Gymnastics (Thursday)

Please ensure kits are in on these days. We advise children with pierced ears, to not come to school wearing their earrings on these days.
