Elstow School

Elstow School took over ownership of the current site in 2004 and  in September 2013 we became a primary school. In September 2014 it became a full Primary School with the first Year 6 cohort. A new teaching block and hall was completed in the Summer of 2013 to provide the classrooms and adequate space for the school’s new primary status.

We are a two-form entry school with a great reputation. We believe that ‘given the right circumstances, all children are capable of extraordinary things’. We are passionate about ensuring the highest quality of education by means of a fully enriched knowledge-based curriculum, training and development for all staff which embodies a high challenge, low threat ethos, and high expectations of behaviour across the school.

In April 2017 we proudly joined forces with Bedford Free School to become a member of Advantage Schools, led by CEO Stuart Lock. In January 2020, Elstow School gained a ‘Good’ rating under the new Ofsted inspection framework. This is testament to the determined work that the whole teaching and management team have done to ensure Elstow pupils leave with the best possible primary education. Our KS2 outcomes are on a significant upward journey and our unashamed focus on an academic curriculum ensures this will continue. We are determined to make sure Elstow pupils leave us with the very best chance of secondary school success.

The safety of our children is of prime importance to us. All visitors have to use the main entrance.

Our security system compromises of a coded door locking system and CCTV. There is no access through any other doorway during the school day.

The school building is set in pleasant developing grounds with both grass and hard play areas.

There are two outside activity areas. One classroom block is positioned around the two courtyards, one a quiet area and the other with a designed play surface and a sensory garden.

The other classroom block is a linear area which like the whole school has has a quiet calm ambience

There are fourteen classrooms all of which have doors opening on to the outside area. There are laptops in each classroom, wifi throughout the school and a library, all of which are used by all children.

One hall has an impact floor and is used for gym and dance activities as well as doubling up as the dining room.

Our school meals are prepared by Innovate Catering and lunches can be ordered through their website. We no longer handle cash payments on site.  Uniform is available through Josens Uniform Shop in Bedford. The school does not hold uniform stock.
